Meet the founder
Buraanbur Sahlan was created from the belief that Buraanbur has always been far more than performance. Long before Somali women were given space within formal systems, they had Buraanbur, an art form through which women gathered, expressed themselves, documented life, celebrated, grieved and took up space amongst one another.
BSN was built to continue that conversation through movement in a modern world where many women have become disconnected from their bodies, culture, confidence and community. By blending traditional Buraanbur with modern movement and fitness, the platform was designed to meet women where they are while encouraging them to reconnect with themselves through movement rooted in culture.
At its core, this is not simply about learning a dance. It is about confidence, presence, womanhood and the importance of preserving an art form that once gave Somali women a voice in rooms they were often excluded from.
My aim is to ensure that the voices of the women who came before us not only survive, but continue to evolve through the women of today.
